nose-surgery-Sydney
More commonly known as a ‘nose job’ rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the nose and improve its appearance.

With rhinoplasty, Sydney residents can:

  • Enlarge or decrease the size of their nose
  • Change the shape of the nostrils
  • Change the shape of the bridge or the tip
  • Alter the angle between their nose and their upper lip

In addition to aesthetic reasons, nose surgery in Sydney can also be used to assist in relieving certain breathing problems, fix problematic nasal obstructions and correct birth defects and injuries.

A nose job in Sydney, carried out by Dr Alan Evans can also create a dramatic transformation to an unbalanced face, making a person’s appearance look considerably different. While a slight change to some part of your nose may seem insignificant to others, it may seem highly significant to how you perceive your nose to be.

Rhinoplasty in Sydney – What can patients expect during surgery

Nose surgery in Sydney can last for up to 2-3 hours, depending upon the complexity of the problem and can be carried out under general anaesthetic in a hospital setting, but Dr Evans will discuss the best option for you.

There are 2 main techniques performed when dealing with nose jobs. Sydney patients can expect either closed or open surgery techniques. While the differences between the two techniques are small, the results are important.

Open technique

An open rhinoplasty is typically used when treating the middle portion or the tip of the nose. It involves making a small bridging incision between the left and right nostrils. The bridging incision enables the surgeon to fold the nasal skin upward to provide full access to the lower nose skeleton. Fortunately, the scar that is left behind after an open rhinoplasty is unlikely to be noticed by others since it is very small. With this technique, swelling of the nasal tip and nose may persist for a few months, but the open approach is frequently needed in order to provide long term stability to the nose.

Closed technique

A closed rhinoplasty involves making all the necessary incisions along the inside of the nose. The advantage of this technique is the lack of visible scarring after surgery. A closed rhinoplasty also lends itself to less swelling and often results in a shorter recovery time than an open rhinoplasty procedure.
Most patients prefer to have this type of rhinoplasty for these reasons, but it does have its limits. For instance, if projection is a big concern or a patient wants to alter the shape or size of the nasal tip, then an open rhinoplasty may be a better option.
Once the surgery is complete, any incisions in the nostril area are sutured. To maintain its new shape, a splint is applied to the outside of the nose. Nasal packs may also be inserted into the nostrils to help stabilise the cartilage and other structures within the nose.

After Surgery

For the first couple of days after your rhinoplasty (nose job) in Sydney, you should take complete rest and sleep with your head raised. Any bending, lifting, jogging or straining should be avoided for 2 or 3 weeks, after which normal activities can usually be resumed. While recovery time varies between individuals, most people can return to work within 7 to 10 days.

Note: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should always seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

If for whatever reason you are not happy with the shape, style, or any features of your nose, as well as have concerns about your breathing, and are looking to undergo rhinoplasty, then patients can rest assured that Dr Evans has the experience and expertise needed to attain your goals.
